LESCHACO - Lexzau Scharbau GmbH & Co. KG in Jersey City, NJ seeks an Import Customer Service Representative – Customs Entry Writer to prepare and submit customs entries for CBP and other agencies, ensuring compliance and timely processing.

You will coordinate with carriers, agents, and clients to resolve discrepancies and support smooth clearance of goods. The role requires 2–4 years in Import Customs Clearance operations, solid knowledge of regulations, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-4 years of experience in Import Customs Clearance operations.
  • Knowledge of current and historical Customs regulations and related directives (FDA, EPA, USDA a plus).
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience handling hazardous materials is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing and submitting customs entries for CBP and other agencies.
  • Transmitting entries to U.S. Customs for import shipments.
  • Verify accuracy of documents and ensure compliance with US Customs regulations.
  • Coordinate with internal/external customers, carriers, and agents for clearance of goods.
  • Resolve documentation discrepancies, FDA holds, or other customs issues.
  • Receive, review, and process import documentation for assigned accounts.
  • Prepare daily activities including delivery orders and coordination with truckers and customers.
  • Process documents through internal systems and provide timely updates to customers.
  • Research and verify entry records by tracing HBLs and invoices.

Job description

Leading Freight Forwarder / NVOCC/ Customs House Broker/ Tank Container Operator, with locations in 24 countries and over 3300 employees strong, is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the position of Import Customer Service Representative – Customs Entry Writer in our Jersey City, NJ office.

Your Responsibilities
  • Preparing and submitting customs entries: This involves preparing the necessary documentation and data for US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other government agencies like the FDA, Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS), USDA, etc.
  • Transmission of Customs Entries to U.S. Customs for import shipments
  • Ensuring compliance: Verify accuracy of documents (commercial invoices and other required shipping document, etc.) and ensure compliance with US Customs regulations.
  • Coordinating with various parties: Communicate and coordinate with both internal and external customers, carriers, freight forwarders, customs officials and other agencies to ensure smooth clearance of goods.
  • Problem-solving: Resolve documentation discrepancies, Customs exams, FDA holds, or other issues related to Customs clearance.
  • Receiving, reviewing, and processing import documentation for an assigned base of accounts
  • Preparing daily activities including: preparing delivery orders and communicate to trucker and customer the coordinate all involved parries for the pickup and delivery of cargo, filing ISF (Importer Security Filing), answering emails.
  • Processing documents through internal systems and interfaces, providing updates and communicating to both internal and external customers to produce timely and compliant transactions.
  • Research and verify key entry transaction records by tracing HBLs, commercial invoices, and other required documentation to determine record availability and support accurate processing.
  • Corresponding with overseas agents and clients.
  • Working with steamship lines/airlines/trucking companies to obtain quotations and handle the movement of freight.
  • Developing and maintaining excellent customer service to internal and external customers
  • Handling the files from A to Z.
  • Responsible for ensuring legal compliance, provide import guidance and control within government rules and regulations.
Your Profile
  • Minimum 2- 4 years of experience in Import Customs Clearance operations
  • Knowledge of current and historical Customs regulations, Harmonized Tariff Schedule, and related directives of government agencies (including but not limited to Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Agriculture Department (USDA) is a plus)
  • Be able to work independently, multi-task, be a team player and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Have computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and Access
  • Experience with the handling of hazardous materials a plus

Salary range: $55,000 to $63,000
