Job summary

Hillebrand Gori in Edison, NJ is seeking a Customs Entry Writer to ensure compliance with U.S. and foreign import regulations while preparing entries for CBP and partner agencies.

You will analyze documents such as invoices and bills of lading, process duty payments, coordinate with operations, sales, and procurement to clear shipments efficiently, accurately, and with responsive customer service. This role offers a hybrid work model and a competitive compensation package.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree is preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years in shipping/logistics.
• Experience with CargoWise or similar TMS is preferred.
• Proficient with MS Office and advanced Excel.

Job Title: Customs Entry Writer
Location: Edison, NJ

Job Purpose:

As Customs Entry Writer, you will ensure compliance with federal and foreign regulations governing the shipment, receipt, and documentation of imported products while processing separate entries to Custom Border Patrol (US CUSTOMS). You will also compute tariffs (taxes), and price conversions of merchandise imported from foreign destinations. In addition, you will also be asked to examine various documents including invoices, bills of lading, and shipping statements to obtain release of incoming freight and resolve delays, allin line with business strategy and financial objectives, Group guidelines and policies. You will collaborate with internal teams (operations, sales, and procurement) and external partners (customers) to process customs entries, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and facilitating the efficient clearance of shipments, quickly and efficiently for our customer base.

Key Responsibilities:

• Process documents through the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) portal.
• Process ACH Duty payments.
• Handle CF28/CF29 requests for information.
• Work closely with other departments to deliver high level of service to customers.
• Maintain recordkeeping as required by US Customs rules and regulations.
• Impeccable customer service.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Serve as the primary company customs representative for your customer account base, ensuring prompt response to customer inquiries and follow through on issues until resolution to customer satisfaction.
• Demonstrate mastery with respect to the customs brokerage products’ standard operating procedures (SOP) and best practices.
• Direct ownership of Customer Standard Operating Procedures and Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) databases for customer account base to ensure full compliance of CBP and customer requirements.
• Develop the skill to serve as a custom’s trusted advisor, transitioning from the day-to-day data entry fundamentals to true customs brokerage account management of your clients.
• Analyze and validate import documentation and data to ensure they are in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations prior to entry submission to U.S Customs and Partner Government Agencies (PGA).
• Adhere to a high level of operational excellence internally and externally, with respect to on‑time performance, accuracy, and customer service

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Strongly preferred: 3+ years in shipping/logistics/supply chain management industry/transportation.
• Depending on department needs, may need a customs‑licensed individual.
• Preferred: experience using transportation management systems, especially CargoWise.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Advanced-level Excel knowledge.
• Physical ability to: communicate clearly and accurately, operate a computer and other office equipment

Pay range: $50,000-70,000 total compensation, based on experience.
