Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate international import shipments across air, ocean, and other modes from booking to delivery.
  • Serve as primary contact for customers, overseas agents, carriers, brokers, and vendors on status and requirements.
  • Review, prepare, and maintain import, customs, and transportation documentation.
  • Obtain cargo releases, arrival notices, charges, and shipment information.
  • Monitor progress, deadlines, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Identify and resolve delays, discrepancies, damages, and service issues.
  • Ensure timely billing, vendor payments, and profitability review.
  • Maintain shipment files in CargoWise and other TMS.
  • Provide excellent customer service through professional, timely communication.
  • Support team members by sharing knowledge and assisting with complex shipments.
  • Ensure compliance with policies and import regulations.

Position Overview

The Import Agent II is responsible for managing international import shipments from origin through final delivery. This role serves as a key point of contact for customers, overseas partners, carriers, customs brokers, and internal teams to ensure shipments are handled efficiently, documentation is complete and accurate, and customer expectations are met.

The ideal candidate has prior experience in freight forwarding or international logistics, a strong understanding of import operations, and the ability to independently manage a high volume of complex shipments while delivering exceptional customer service.

Schedule: 100% in office. Weekend or holiday coverage may be required on a departmental rotation based on operational needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate international import shipments across air, ocean, and other transportation modes from booking through final delivery.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, overseas agents, carriers, customs brokers, and vendors regarding shipment status, requirements, and issue resolution.
  • Review, prepare, and maintain accurate import, customs, and transportation documentation.
  • Obtain cargo releases, arrival notices, charges, and other required shipment information.
  • Monitor shipment progress, critical deadlines, regulatory requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Proactively identify, investigate, and resolve shipment delays, discrepancies, damages, and service issues.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing, vendor payments, and file profitability review.
  • Maintain complete and accurate shipment files within CargoWise and other transportation management systems.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through professional and timely communication.
  • Support team members by sharing knowledge, assisting with complex shipments, and contributing to process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, customer requirements, and applicable import regulations.
Qualifications
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain, or a related international transportation environment.
  • Strong knowledge of international import operations, documentation, and customs processes.
  • Experience handling air and ocean import shipments independently.
  • CargoWise experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong customer service orientation and commitment to quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound decisions.
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience preferred.
