Job summary

SEIU USWW is seeking an External Organizing professional to help organize thousands of workers across California, educate and mobilize members, and advance social and economic justice within the union. You will recruit leaders, plan campaigns, coordinate with organizers and researchers, and engage workers through events and site visits.

The role requires traveling and working flexible hours, with a strong emphasis on community organizing and coalition building within a diverse workforce.

Qualifications

• Equivalent experience in labor and community organizing.
• Commitment to social and economic justice.
• Experience on campaigns with a labor union, public policy, or non-profit.
• Knowledge of union organizing principles.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in fast-paced, diverse teams.
• Strong time management and ability to work both independently and in a team.
• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, and social media.

Responsibilities

• Educate, agitate and motivate workers to action.
• Identify, recruit, train and develop worker leaders and committees.
• Contribute to campaign planning and execution with organizers, communicators and researchers.
• Plan and mobilize for worksite actions, union events and marches.
• Conduct one-on-ones, site visits and worker-led committee meetings.
• Maintain a database with information on worksites and workers.
• Prepare and manage workplans, calendars and records.
• Engage members in union political programs and activities.
• Support other union priorities as assigned.
