Job summary

Montgomery County Public Schools’ Forest Knolls Elementary School in Silver Spring seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to provide direct instruction and support to students with disabilities. You will collaborate with general education teachers, monitor outcomes, and assist in developing IEPs within a 0.5 FTE Pre-K and 0.5 FTE Home School Model allocation.

The role requires attending meetings beyond instructional days per MCPS guidelines, with a 10-month, full-time schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited college.
• Meets Maryland certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
• Student teaching in the area of exceptionality or two years teaching experience at level appropriate to assignment (elementary or secondary).
• Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, development reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities.
• Collaborate with general education teachers.
• Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities.
• Assist in development of IEPs.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated.
