Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher to work in local schools and central office. You will collaborate with parents, students, regular education teachers, and related service personnel to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and provide engaging, challenging work to maximize each student’s abilities.

The role is a full-time, 9-month position (187 days) reporting to local school principals and the Special Education Director.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Alabama state teaching certificate in area of instructional responsibility.
• Knowledge of federal, state and local laws governing special needs children.
• Experience with special education processes: referral, eligibility, IEP, and records management.

Responsibilities

• Plans and delivers instructional activities in line with IEP goals.
• Demonstrates subject matter knowledge with daily presentation.
• Uses behavior management techniques to create a positive learning environment.
• Makes data-driven decisions to improve student outcomes.
• Collaborates with general education teachers to align instruction with IEP goals.
• Maintains regular communication with parents and specialists.
