Job summary

Montgomery Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher to provide an educational environment where students with special needs succeed academically, socially, and physically. You will implement individualized programs, collaborate with IEP teams, and advocate for students within the school system.

You will use prescribed curricula, employ varied instructional strategies, monitor progress with data, and communicate student growth to families while maintaining high professional standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Alabama teaching certificate in special education.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria under Alabama Child Protection Act.
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to develop and implement curriculum for assigned students.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, plan, instruct, and report.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and support student needs.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system’s vision and priorities.
• Participates in development and implementation of students’ IEPs.
• Schedules and participates in IEP meetings and follows IEPs.
• Uses diverse instructional strategies to meet student needs.
• Monitors progress and uses data to adjust instruction and curriculum.
• Maintains supervision and a safe, orderly learning environment.
• Communicates student progress clearly to parents and colleagues.
• Maintains confidentiality and adheres to policies and procedures.
