Job summary

The Day School at The Children’s Institute is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher in Pittsburgh. The position is full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., following a traditional school-year schedule.

You will collaborate with teachers, behavioral specialists, therapists, and families to develop and monitor individualized academic and behavioral plans for students, and you will communicate regularly with families about student progress.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in special education
• One year successful experience in a special education setting
• Current special education certification in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
• Act 73 FBI, State Act 34-Criminal, and State Act 33-Child Abuse Clearances
• Current and valid CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with classroom team, behavioral specialists, occupational, speech, and physical therapists, school districts, and families to develop and monitor individualized academic and behavioral programming for students.
• Identify students’ needs based on assessments and prior reports and determine goals and educational activities.
• Develop individualized strategies and interventions when working with students.
• Use curricula resources effectively
• Develop classroom management plans and plans for small and large group instruction
• Maintain regular communication with families regarding classroom activities and student performance
