Job summary

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is seeking a Substitute Teacher for Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled. Certification requirements include a Missouri substitute certificate or a Missouri teaching certificate.

Qualifications

• Eligible to be issued Missouri Substitute Teacher’s Certificate by documenting a minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• Missouri Teaching Certificate is required or professional license as specified by state law.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement appropriate individualized education program (IEP) for students with disabilities using MSSD curriculum.
• Analyze student learning style and adapt teaching strategies to meet educational needs.
• Choose age-appropriate, functional activities and materials for teaching.
• Conduct IEP team and special education meetings.
• Coordinate design and implementation of behavioral support/interventions for students with challenging behaviors.
• Coordinate communication systems for students.
• Develop and follow a time-efficient daily schedule to implement IEPs.
• Follow student-specific health care procedures as specified.
• Maintain a safe environment and confidentiality of information.
• Follow policies of the MSSD program.
• Carry out daily self-care needs of students as needed (toileting etc.).
• Maintain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification as specified.
