Job summary

Sylvania is seeking a Paraeducator in Special Education to support students with disabilities in various settings. The role involves assisting instruction, behavior management, and progress monitoring, with emphasis on safety and caring for students’ needs.

Starting 8/31/26, the position requires a High School Diploma, related certifications, and completion of credentialing within 30 days. The district offers insurance benefits for 6+ hour days and a 5-day posting period.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent. Personal Care Assistant certification required to be completed within 30 days of start date.
• Candidates must have completed 60 semester/90 quarter credits or obtained an associate degree (or higher) from a regionally accredited institution or have passed the ParaEducator exam or ParaPro exam. (Documentation will be required)
• Good communications, interpersonal and recordkeeping skills.
• Ability/desire to work with technology and computers.
• Ability to work cooperatively with students and staff.
• Ability to supervise students.
• Ability to take direction.
• Ability to maintain regular attendance, which includes completing an assigned day.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds.
• Must be physically working in the building.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the instruction of students with disabilities in mainstream, resource room or center base settings.
• Manage behavior (redirecting, calming or removing a disruptive student from the classroom).
• Monitor and record student progress in instructional areas (academics, daily living skills, dressing, grooming, social skills, etc.).
• Managing physical needs (toileting, feeding, dressing, lifting, positioning, transporting students in wheelchairs, etc.).
