Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a dedicated Instructional Assistant for Special Education across elementary, middle, or high school settings. The role supports teachers with IEPs, behavior plans, and classroom activities while ensuring a safe, inclusive environment for diverse learners.

Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED and prefer candidates with CPI training, CPR/First Aid, and experience with students with special needs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• ESSA requirements: six semester hours in early childhood education or two years of work in an early childhood setting.
• CPI certification and renewal process is required; CPI training provided by WCPSS if needed.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students and IEPs.
• Assist in implementing behavioral intervention plans and classroom routines.
• Prepare materials and manage supplies to support lesson plans.
• Maintain confidentiality and accurate reports while supporting student achievement.
• Assist with transitions between classes and care for health-related needs as required.
• Support assistive technology and communication devices in the classroom.
