Job summary

The Muskego-Norway School District seeks an Instructional Assistant for Bay Lane Elementary School to support special education teachers in instructional activities and supervise students in both structured and unstructured settings.

Responsibilities include assisting with behavior management, self-help skills, and health procedures, and may involve lifting or restraining students up to 80 pounds. A DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification (or willingness to obtain) is required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Dependable driving and work record a must.
• Positive and friendly work attitude.
• Must have DPI Spec. Ed. Program Aide certification or be willing to become certified.
• Must be able to work flexible hours.
• Be knowledgeable and physically capable of lifting/restraining students weighing up to 80 pounds.
• Ability to get along and communicate well with staff, students, and parents.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to use computer equipment and other assistive technology devices.
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Support special education teachers in instructional activities and supervision of students in structured and unstructured environments.
• Assist in behavior management strategies and supports.
• Assist with self-help skills and health care procedures as needed.
• Work with wheelchair or ambulatory students in small groups or individually and may lift or restrain students up to 80 pounds.
• Perform other duties as assigned by administrator or classroom teacher.
