Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant for the 2026-2027 school year to provide classroom and environmental supports to students with IEPs, under the direction of a special education teacher.

You will assist with instructional activities, monitor students on the bus, support lunch/recess, and perform clerical duties while maintaining confidentiality of student information.

Qualifications

• Some knowledge of childhood growth and development, behavior management techniques and clerical procedures; of general academic subjects sufficient to teach others.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise children in the absence of the special education teacher; to perform basic clerical tasks, communicate effectively orally and in writing and follow oral and written instructions.
• Demonstrated ability to work professionally with students, staff.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including recording grades and preparing instructional materials.
• Supports students during instructional activities (one-on-one, small groups, whole group) as directed by the teacher.
• Assists students onto/off the school bus and supervises at lunch/recess per IEP.
• Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies.
• Implements accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the teacher.
