Job summary

Alabaster City Schools seeks a qualified Sign Language Interpreter/Language Acquisition Specialist to provide interpreting services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students in classroom and campus settings.

The role requires ALBIT credentialing, fluency in ASL and English, and the ability to support students under the guidance of certified teachers while maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.

Qualifications

• Valid renewable permit or license following ALBIT state requirements.
• Fluency in American English and American Sign Language (ASL).
• Good health and ability to implement a behavioral management program.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Any appropriate alternatives as the district may accept.

Responsibilities

• Interpret/Transliterate for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students per IEP.
• Collaborate with general education staff to provide access to instruction and materials.
• Prepare for daily classroom activities and vocabulary development.
• Provide academic support to the student under a certified teacher’s guidance.
• Assist students in academic and nonacademic activities to reinforce concepts.
• Implement instructional/behavioral programs and gather data for instruction.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries with students and staff.
