Job summary

ALABASTER CITY SCHOOLS is seeking a dedicated Sign Language Interpreter/Language Acquisition Specialist to support Deaf/Hard of Hearing students within the classroom and schoolwide setting.

You will interpret/transliterate per IEP, collaborate with teachers, and prepare instructional materials to ensure clear communication and access to education across environments. This nine-month role emphasizes professionalism, confidentiality, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Valid renewable permit or license per ALBIT state requirements.
• Fluency in American English and American Sign Language (ASL).
• Good physical and emotional health and ability to implement a behavioral management program.

Responsibilities

• Interpret/Transliterate for students using the IEP-documented communication method across classrooms and non-academic settings.
• Collaborate with general education staff to provide access to instruction and materials.
• Prepare for daily lectures and activities, including setting up for speakers and learning vocabulary.
• Provide academic support to the Deaf/Hard of Hearing student under teacher guidance.
• Assist students in academic and nonacademic activities, individually or in groups.
• Implement instructional/behavioral programs under supervision and gather data as needed.
