Atlantic Health offers a Parent Education & Teaching position within the Maternity Center. The educator disseminates scientifically based information on pregnancy, childbirth, infant care, parenting, and family life; teaches perinatal classes; presents these topics as normal life events; and participates in professional development.

Responsabilidades

• Disseminates accurate, scientifically based, and practical information regarding pregnancy, childbirth, infant care, parenting, and family life.
• Teaches perinatal classes based on approved department curriculum.
• Presents pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting as normal life events.
• Participates in professional development through attendance at workshops, conferences, and home study.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate communication skills and safety measures.
• Uses adult learning theory and adaptive teaching strategies to provide interactive education.
• Selects teaching strategies appropriate to the audience.
• Fosters independence, self-confidence, and communication skills.
• Utilizes equipment and educational resources appropriately.
• Evaluates learning through return demonstrations, course evaluations, and personal contact.
• Provides a safe and comfortable classroom atmosphere that facilitates sharing and learning.
• Recognizes clients' rights to informed choice.
• Structures classes to empower students.
• Greets clients courteously and respectfully, responds with empathy, and demonstrates positive interpersonal skills.
• Acknowledges diversity in family lifestyles and cultural backgrounds while understanding students' feelings, attitudes, and beliefs.
• Acts as an educational resource and support person for clients, staff from other departments, and community members.
• Recognizes limitations and refers students or staff to appropriate healthcare professionals when necessary.
• Serves as a role model for nursing students observing programs.
• Conducts tours of the Maternity Center as needed.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate communication skills.
• Works collaboratively with other instructors, lactation consultants, and administrative assistants.
• Orients new staff.
• Team teaches when appropriate.
• Assists with creating the annual class calendar.
• Responds to administrative requests promptly.
• Prepares for classes and returns equipment and supplies while considering the needs of other educators.
• Assists coworkers readily and substitutes for other instructors as needed.
• Works toward improving educational offerings to meet client needs.
• Distributes, collects, and submits evaluations.
• Responds to feedback to improve teaching effectiveness.
• Plans, updates, evaluates, and revises course syllabi and handouts.
• Maintains current and accurate educational materials and remains proficient in audiovisual equipment use.
• Participates in departmental performance improvement initiatives.
• Attends staff meetings.
• Reviews new program materials.
• Assists the manager in revising curriculum and handouts.
• Participates in performance improvement projects as requested.
• Maintains class records and collects payments when necessary.
• Keeps attendance rosters.
• Requests payment from students as directed by the administrative assistant.
• Returns rosters and payments in a timely manner.
