Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking a Perinatal Educator to educate patients preparing for birth and early parenting, under the supervision of the Childbirth Education Coordinator. You will help update the curriculum to support a quality instructional program for expecting parents, infants, and families.

The role requires applying adult learning principles, strong communication, and collaboration across departments to ensure content reflects current practice and evidence in prenatal care.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred for education-related role.
• CPR certification required per teaching assignment.
• National certification in childbirth education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide education to patients preparing for birth and early parenting.
• Collaborate with the Childbirth Education Coordinator to update the curriculum.
• Evaluate instructional content to ensure accuracy and current practice.
• Establish professional rapport and empower patients to make informed decisions.
• Demonstrate and model critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills.
• Promote customer service standards and professional development.
• Maintain instructional materials, equipment and class records.
• Pivot from in-person to online teaching with ease.
• Coordinate with staff on community services for prenatal patients.
• Support interdepartmental relationships to meet department goals.
• Contribute feedback for program development and needs.
• Incorporate literature reviews and conference learnings into teaching.
• Ensure content reflects current evidence-based prenatal care.
• Assist in evaluating participants’ understanding and adapt accordingly.
• Negotiate a personal development plan based on feedback, self-evaluation.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
