Job summary

LEONA MICHIGAN EDUCATION GROUP seeks a dedicated classroom teacher to provide high-quality instruction and collaborate with the school leader, colleagues, students, parents, and the board to achieve the academy's goals.

The role includes planning lessons aligned with state standards, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and working with special education staff to support diverse learners. Extracurricular involvement may be required.

Qualifications

• State teacher licensure/certification with appropriate endorsements.
• Bachelor’s degree with subject area emphasis and/or coursework/experience to be deemed highly qualified.
• Demonstrated commitment to student learning success.
• Experience in tutoring or teaching or other education-related experience; evidence of successful parent relations.

Responsibilities

• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning; develop rules of behavior; enforce the academy's discipline code; participate in school-wide behavior initiatives.
• Plan a program of study that meets students' needs; set objectives; align lessons with state and school standards.
• Develop lesson plans and submit for review; collaborate with instructional coach to improve instruction; participate in ongoing analysis and planning to keep curriculum aligned to standards.
• Collaborate with special education staff to serve students with special needs; participate in IEPs; implement accommodations and modifications as indicated.
• Collaborate with staff to implement grant-funded programming to accelerate learning for diverse student needs; bring them to grade-level proficiency.
• Maintain accurate records; ensure confidentiality; prepare documentation for regulatory compliance; participate in reporting requirements.
• Communicate with parents and make themselves available outside normal hours; encourage parent involvement; provide regular performance updates.
• Maintain professional competence via conferences, mentoring, professional organizations; complete coursework to maintain teaching credentials and 'highly qualified' status.
• Inform school leader of needed instructional resources; participate in grade-level and school improvement teams; contribute to collaborative planning.
