Job summary

UNC Health Care System is seeking a Physician Assistant to join the interdisciplinary team in Chapel Hill, NC. The role supports high-quality, cost-effective patient care under physician supervision, with a strong emphasis on evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities cover comprehensive history taking, physical exams, diagnosis, treatment planning, and education for patients and families. Per diem schedule and on-site work enable flexible coverage across the department.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.

Responsibilities

• Clinical- Obtains relevant health and medical history, performs thorough physical assessment, reviews and interprets pertinent diagnostic tests/results. Develops appropriate differential diagnoses. Develops and implements treatment plans including prescribing/ordering of appropriate evidence-based pharmacological agents consistent with departmental guidelines and privileging, and schedules appropriate follow-up management.
• Education- Educates clients and families regarding medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up. Collaborates with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient-centered care. Develops educational materials and provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and/or students.
• Leadership- Provides instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing, ancillaries and/or students including precepting, shadowing, lectures, training classes, CE, rounds, and staff meetings. Participates in community outreach programs.
• Professional- Interacts with patients and families respectfully and timely, collaborates with coworkers, demonstrates strong communication and analytical skills.
• Quality/Research- Engages in quality improvement, leads interdisciplinary teams, and contributes to protocol development and care improvement.
