Job summary

Denver Public Schools is seeking a Long-Term Substitute teacher to deliver grade-appropriate, standard-based instruction per district curriculum while the classroom teacher is absent for an extended period. You will support student achievement, maintain conduct, and track performance with district tools.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Education or related field, a valid CDE license or receipt, and a commitment to equity and high-quality education for all students residing in Colorado.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field.
• Valid Colorado Department of Education teaching license (DPS accepts a CDE Application Receipt for 90 days).
• Commitment to equity and educational excellence, dismantling oppression and inequity, ensuring all students feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
• Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while employed by DPS.
• Ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

• Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
• Monitors, supervises, coordinates, and enforces rule of conduct and behavior of assigned students and reinforces positive student behaviors in accordance with school and District policy.
• Observes, evaluates, reports, and records students’ performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
• Prepares educational course outlines, objectives, and materials according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
• Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects to students.
• Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and technology, adjusting teaching style and method to meet student learning style.
• Instructs students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions).
• Prepares, administers, assigns, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
• Prepares student, attendance and activity reports as required by administrators.
• Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems and coordinates instructional efforts.
