Job summary

Orting School District is seeking a High Needs Paraeducator for Ptarmigan Ridge Elementary School to assist with life skills instruction and related student services under certificated staff supervision.

Position requires a HS diploma or equivalent, with preferred AA degree or higher, strong communication, and ability to implement instructional supports; 180-day year, 6.5 hours/day, 8:45 am–3:45 pm. DOE salary ranges apply with step increases.

Qualifications

• Be at least 18 years old with a HS diploma or equivalent.
• AA degree or higher or equivalent college credits preferred.
• Ability to relate to students, staff and parents.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to utilize strategies to provide instructional support.
• Work Skills Assessments: meet minimum reading, writing, math and tech scores.
• First Aid/CPR certified.

Responsibilities

• Assist students with toileting including catheterization.
• Feedings, oral and tube feeding (excluding non-oral meds).
• Transfer non-ambulatory students.
• Manual restraint as per aversive therapy plan.
• Serve as Parent Designated Adult after district training to support eligible students.
• Diabetic health plan management with PDA training.
• Work with students individually or in small groups across content areas.
• Assist staff in designing, implementing, and evaluating instructional programs.
• Assist in student supervision and discipline.
• Lead group discussions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
