Job summary

Housing Matters in Santa Cruz County seeks a Kitchen DSC to prep, cook, and transport meals from Landing and Bridge sites. The role requires working closely with kitchen staff and shelter teams, following strict food-safety standards, and ensuring meals meet quality expectations.

The position is full-time, hourly, non-exempt, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, 403b, and PTO. Regular shifts are Monday–Friday, 10 am–6 pm, with potential holiday coverage.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of institutional cooking experience for large volumes.
• Must have a valid California Driver’s License, insurance and registered vehicle.
• Serve-safe certification is required.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs and perform physical tasks.
• Structured scheduling skills and kitchen safety knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and serve meals meeting Serve-safe standards.
• Safely operate kitchen equipment and maintain sanitation.
• Wash dishes and kitchen tools as part of daily duties.
• Transport meals to Landing and Bridge satellite locations.
• Follow opening/closing procedures and cleaning protocols.
• Support shelter guests and provide problem-solving assistance.
• Distribute snacks and supplies when available.
