Job summary

Texas Health and Human Services Commission is seeking a Food Service Worker II in Carlsbad, TX. The role supports central or satellite kitchens, handling regular and therapeutic diets and maintaining sanitation per HACCP standards.

Requires standing/walking, lifting, and weekend/holiday work as needed. The position is full-time with a day shift, modest travel, and no telework eligibility. Salary is paid monthly with state benefits included.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation standards.
• Skill in operation and sanitizing of food service equipment.
• Ability to prepare/serve food and maintain clean areas and records.
• Ability to speak/read English.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
• Ability to use basic math in cooking/preparation.
• Ability to lift at least 25 pounds.
• Ability to bend/reach and stand/walk for extended times.
• Ability to work in hot and/or cold conditions.
• Ability to work harmoniously with co-workers and residents.

Responsibilities

• Attend regular shifts; follow schedule, policies, and training.
• Assist in food preparation and portioning for regular and special diets.
• Prepare snacks and supplements; maintain snack items.
• Distribute food safely per policies.
• Assist in serving food and maintain sanitation.
• Follow HACCP guidelines and food safety procedures.
• Receive deliveries and complete related paperwork.
• Train or assist in training new staff on procedures.
• Support disaster response or COOP activation as needed.
