Job summary

The Salvation Army is seeking a dedicated Caseworker to assess rental and utility needs, assist with applications, provide financial support, and coordinate a food pantry in a community-focused environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, ensuring compliance, and building relationships with local agencies while supporting clients and referring spiritual needs to the Corps Officer as appropriate.

Qualifications

• High School diploma; two years of college in Human Services; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Two years’ experience working with low income and minority populations.
• Must complete The Salvation Army’s Caseworker Certification.
• Positive interpersonal relations and strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and with other staff.
• Capacity to relate to people with dignity and respect in a non-judgmental manner.

Responsibilities

• Assess rental, utility, and support needs for individuals and families by determining eligibility through appointments, interviews, third-party sources, and verifying information.
• Assist clients in completing applications for rent, utilities, food pantry, and assistance including seasonal programs and sign-ups.
• Provide financial assistance and connect clients to additional community resources as needed.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all financial assistance activities.
• Ensure compliance with documentation standards and reporting requirements for funding purposes.
• Manage and coordinate the food pantry, including inventory, shortages, and monthly stats reporting to Corps Officer and KC Areas Command staff.
• Input client service data into the MAAC link for accurate assistance records and statistics.
• Make community referrals and advocate for best outcomes with agencies.
• Establish and cultivate professional relationships with other community agencies.
• Attend monthly meetings, professional development sessions, and other community meetings.
• Submit monthly statistical reports of all financial assistance transactions to the Corps Officer and KC Areas Command staff for TSA Stat System.
• Refer clients to the Corps Officer in times of spiritual need.
