Job summary

Kent Consortium is seeking a Special Education Teacher for elementary level districtwide service. The role supports students with IEPs and 504 plans across multiple locations, with 187 school days in the year.

The teacher will plan instruction, monitor progress, and communicate with families. Responsibilities include maintaining records, ensuring a safe classroom, and collaborating with staff and administrators.

Qualifications

  • Holds bachelor's or higher degree and the required Kentucky Teacher Certification and/or endorsement for the assigned position
  • Has demonstrated the ability to communicate and work effectively with students, colleagues, and others

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated. Assures that students spend maximum time on task
  • Plans a program of study and instructional practices meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students
  • Creates supportive classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written lesson plans upon request of principal and/or supervisor
  • Encourages students to set and maintain high standards of classroom behavior and achievement
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and communicates clear objectives for instruction
  • Employs a variety of instructional practices and instructional resources to support the needs and capabilities of the students
  • Implements instruction and aligns with the district's mission and goals
  • Assesses progress and communicates with parents with progress reports as required
  • Uses data to determine strengths and deficits and adjusts instruction for individual needs (IEP/504/interventions)
  • Maintains records as required by law, policy and regulation
  • Assists administration in implementing policies and maintains classroom order
  • Makes provision for availability to students/parents outside instructional day
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through ongoing learning
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on committees
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor
