Job summary

Chesterfield County Public Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant to support students with IEPs under the direction of a special education teacher. The role focuses on classroom duties, one-on-one and small-group support, and helping implement accommodations in IEPs.

Responsibilities include clerical tasks, grade recording, materials prep, and supervising students on buses and during meals; applicants must complete background checks and have a High School diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of childhood growth and development and behavior management techniques.
• Familiarity with clerical procedures and basic academic subjects to support teaching.
• Ability to supervise students in the absence of the special education teacher; follow instructions and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Assists special education teachers with classroom duties, including recording grades, preparing instructional materials, and administering instructional and testing accommodations.
• Supports students during instructional activities (one-on-one, in small groups, during whole group instruction) as directed by the special education teacher; documents student progress.
• Assists students onto and off the school bus and supervises students at lunch, recess as indicated in the child’s IEP.
• Provides clerical assistance – typing, filing, maintaining records and ordering supplies and classroom materials.
• Implements accommodations in a child’s IEP as directed by the special education teacher.
• Participates in training and implementing support for students related to toileting, personal care, and basic healthcare needs; may serve in the absence of the clinic assistant if trained.
• Performs other related duties as required.
