Job summary

City of Greensboro invites applications for a Commercial Code Compliance Inspector. This full-time, non-exempt role conducts advanced inspections and enforcement across residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties, managing cases from inspection to resolution.

You will interpret codes, prepare defensible records, coordinate with City departments, and engage with property owners, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure compliance and public safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1–3 years of related experience in code compliance, inspection, or enforcement.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and database software.
• Strong public speaking, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Investigate and inspect residential, commercial, mixed-use, and other properties.
• Independently manage assigned cases through enforcement, hearings, or closure.
• Prepare detailed notices, case chronologies, and enforcement documents.
• Explain correction options, deadlines, and appeal rights to stakeholders.
• Coordinate cases with other City departments and external agencies.
• Support hearings and prepare exhibits for administrative proceedings.
• Provide field guidance, coaching, and training to staff.
