Job summary

The City of Goldsboro is seeking a field inspector to enforce state codes and local ordinances during construction projects within the City. You will inspect work in progress, advise on code compliance, and issue permits and occupancy certificates as needed.

Under general supervision, you will schedule field work, review site plans, communicate with contractors, and maintain thorough inspection records. The role involves driving across the City and supporting related inspections as required.

Qualifications

• Requires high school graduation or GED with specialized courses in trades.
• Experience in two trades with two years in each, or two years in building trades or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and relevant certifications.

Responsibilities

• Schedule field inspections for building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical codes and issue permits/occupancy certificates.
• Notify parties of defects, re-inspect, and issue stop orders as needed.
• Review site plans and blueprints; advise on code issues and project feasibility.
• Advise contractors on code interpretation and compliance.
• Maintain inspection records and prepare reports; drive to various city locations.
• Conduct inspections supporting other city functions and tests when required.
