Job summary

The Community Blood Center seeks a Distribution Technician to support processing, labeling, storage and distribution of blood components. The full-time role runs on the 3rd shift, Tuesday-Friday, from 10:30 p.m.

to 8:30 a.m., with initial morning training hours during onboarding. Ideal candidates will have a high school education, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work in a controlled lab environment with safety requirements.

Qualifications

• High School education or equivalency required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology desirable.
• Excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare high quality components in a timely and efficient manner.
• Recheck own work for accuracy and perform peer reviews of component and equipment records.
• Filter, store, label, ship, and irradiate blood components as applicable.
• Prepare recovered components for shipment.
• Perform required equipment maintenance and QC on a timely basis.
• Practice proper customer service skills for internal and external customers.
• May deliver blood to local customers on an as-needed emergency basis.
• Monitor and evaluate temperature recording devices.
• Verify component inventories as directed by CBC SOPs.
• Accurately enter data into the computer system.
• Assist in training new staff or procedures as needed.
• Maintain neat, clean work area and professional appearance.
• Separate and package biohazard waste properly.
• Use materials and equipment economically and safely.
• Comply with CBC policies and SOPs and directives.
• Maintain current job-related skills via training and reading publications.
