Job summary

The YMCA of Raleigh seeks a Learning Intervention Teacher to lead literacy and math lessons for individuals and small groups in the after-school Y Learning Intervention Program. Under the Y Excel Youth Director, you will plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons and conduct pre-/post-assessments.

This part-time role runs Monday–Friday, 3:00–5:30 p.m., focusing on academic, social, and emotional growth and requires collaboration with teachers and parents while upholding YMCA policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree preferred with a minimum of 1 year of teaching experience in an academic setting.
• K-6 elementary teaching certification required.
• Proven ability to lead groups of children effectively, manage classroom behavior, and create a positive, structured environment.
• Passion for fostering academic, social, and emotional growth in elementary-aged children through creative and supportive programming.
• Capable of working closely with parents, school staff, and program teams to support student development and program success.
• Multilingual ability is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and teach literacy and math to individuals and small groups.
• Plan and teach lessons on character development/21st century skills and executive functioning using pre-selected curriculum.
• Administer pre- and post assessments and report results to the Y Excel Youth Director.
• Maintain communication with Y Excel Youth Director and classroom teachers for guidance and feedback.
• Adhere to program SOPs and quality standards; participate in staff meetings and trainings.
• Follow YMCA policies, including safety, emergencies and student welfare.
• Build positive relationships with students and families; ensure timely resource access.
