YMCA of Southwestern NC is seeking a part-time Literacy Specialist to provide individualized and small-group tutoring to students in the afterschool program. You will assess reading strengths, plan engaging activities, and support homework with a focus on literacy, fostering a positive learning environment.

You will collaborate with program staff, maintain records, and participate in staff meetings to promote student success and confidence in literacy skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Reading, English, Elementary Education, or related field preferred.
• Experience tutoring or teaching literacy to school-age children.
• Knowledge of evidence-based reading instruction and literacy interventions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.

Responsabilités

• Provide individualized and small-group literacy tutoring to students.
• Assess literacy strengths and adapt instruction for learner needs.
• Plan and implement engaging reading and writing activities.
• Support homework completion with literacy focus.
• Foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.
• Track student progress and communicate observations to leadership.
• Collaborate with afterschool staff to integrate literacy enrichment.
• Maintain accurate attendance and tutoring records.
