Job summary

The National Center for Youth Law (NCYL) seeks a Directing Attorney to independently lead the development and execution of complex litigation focused on children’s civil rights and public systems affecting youth. This one-year, full-time role includes case generation, remedy implementation, and coordination with co-counsel, staff, and external partners.

Reporting to the Co-Directors of Litigation, the position requires leading multi-jurisdictional litigation, supervising attorneys and staff, and

Qualifications

• JD degree required and bar in good standing.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant impact litigation leadership across multiple jurisdictions or 10 years with demonstrated jurisdictional success.

Responsibilities

• Lead all aspects of complex litigation from investigation to appeals.
• Oversee remedy implementation, settlements, and fee recovery.
• Supervise staff and co-counsel including pro bono partners; manage budgets.
• Represent NCYL externally in public forums and media.
• Collaborate with leadership to align litigation with NCYL’s mission.
