Job summary

National Center for Youth Law seeks a Directing Attorney to independently lead complex litigation, from identifying strategic opportunities to managing investigations, filings, discovery, trials, and appeals. The role includes remedy implementation, staff supervision, and collaboration with co-counsel, with opportunities in fundraising and external representation.

This is a temporary, full-time position reporting to the co-directors of litigation, with travel as needed, and a strong commitment

Qualifications

• Demonstrated success leading impact litigation from inception to reform.
• Experience coordinating investigations, filings, discovery, trials, and appeals.
• Ability to supervise legal staff and manage complex litigation budgets.

Responsibilities

• Identify strategic litigation opportunities to improve public benefits access for children.
• Lead complex litigation across jurisdictions, including pleadings, discovery, and court appearances.
• Oversee remedy implementation and monitor compliance in settlements.
• Coordinate with co-counsel and external partners.
• Represent NCYL in media and external forums; align litigation with mission.
