Job summary

The Weingart Foundation in Los Angeles seeks an experienced Program Officer to advance racial, social and economic equity by supporting nonprofit organizations, collaboratives and coalitions in Southern California.

You will manage grants from inquiry through final disposition, work with a collaborative program team, and report to the Vice President of Programs. The role focuses on South Los Angeles and requires leadership, diligence, and a strong commitment to equity and community partners.

Qualifications

  • Minimum five years in a senior program management role, preferably in social justice nonprofits.
  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication.
  • Familiarity with the Southern California nonprofit sector and diverse communities.
  • Experience addressing inequity impacting underserved communities of color in Southern California.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze grant applications and conduct due diligence to assess fit.
  • Develop and implement grant strategies for geographic priority areas.
  • Engage with applicants to obtain information and respond to inquiries.
  • Analyze financial documents to assess fiscal strength and sustainability.
  • Complete organizational assessments to support learning and effectiveness.
  • Prepare written assessments and funding recommendations for Board review.
  • Present grant requests through peer review and Board consideration.
  • Support capacity-building and learning for grantees.
