Job summary

The Dean & Margaret Lesher Foundation in Walnut Creek, California seeks a Program Officer and Grants Manager to advance grantmaking in Education, Children & Families, and Arts & Culture. You will analyze proposals, manage grants data, and coordinate with the ED, Senior Program Officer, and partners to strengthen local nonprofits.

You will help shape strategy, coordinate the grants cycle, and contribute to learning and improvement across the foundation’s initiatives in Contra Costa County.

Qualifications

• At least five years combined experience in grantmaking, program services delivery, grants management or nonprofit administration.
• Master’s degree may substitute for two years’ experience.
• Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical background, applied research, critical thinking and writing skills.
• Expertise in at least one foundation issue focus area preferred.
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative, client-oriented approach.
• Familiarity with Contra Costa County a plus.

Responsibilities

• Contributes to developing grantmaking strategy in assigned issue areas.
• Reviews grant proposals, conducts site visits, evaluates and makes recommendations.
• Conducts program research and landscape assessments; shares best practices.
• Builds relationships with nonprofit partners and stakeholders at county-wide and local levels.
• Plans convenings of grantees and key stakeholders to advance initiatives.
• Participates in organizational learning and professional development.
