Job summary

The Jewish Federation of Greater Indianapolis, Inc. is seeking a skilled Controller to lead accounting, revenue management, payroll, and internal controls for a nonprofit focused on community grants and services.

You will drive month-end close, endowment reporting, and audit support, ensuring GAAP compliance while collaborating across departments to advance the organization’s mission and stewardship of funds.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience, nonprofit and fund accounting preferred.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Proficiency with accounting software; familiarity with MIP, Blackbaud, or QuickBooks Nonprofit.
  • Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and deadline management.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
  • Commitment to supporting the mission and values of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee A/R aging, posting of payments to donor, grant, and program revenue.
  • Prepare and issue invoices for grants, contracts, programs, and other receivables.
  • Lead month-end close activities and ensure general ledger accuracy.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, including statements of activities and financial position.
  • Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and complex reconciliation issues.
  • Manage payroll processing and cost allocations to grants and programs.
  • Coordinate with auditors and assist with Form 990 prep.
  • Provide financial data for grant reports and board presentations.
