Job summary

Thornton Fractional Township High School District 215 is seeking a Director of Multilingual Education and Equity to lead and advance district ML programs. The role oversees TBE, TPI, and coordination with general education to ensure culturally and linguistically diverse student success.

The position requires a licensed administrator with bilingual endorsements, a master’s in a related field, and at least ten years of bilingual education leadership.

Qualifications

• Must hold a current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with General administrative OR Principal OR Superintendent endorsement AND Bilingual education OR English as a new language endorsement
• Must complete a teacher evaluator pre-qualification program as provided or approved by ISBE
• Must have earned a master's degree in bilingual education, educational leadership, linguistics or a related field from an regionally accredited institution
• Must have at least ten years' of full-time relevant, professional experience in bilingual education, including instructional leadership
• Has excellent integrity and demonstrates good moral character and initiative
• Strong knowledge of ML instruction and effective language acquisition strategies
• Strong knowledge of bilingual education regulations and compliance requirements

Responsibilities

• Advocate for multilingual learners.
• Identify opportunities to improve multilingual learner programs across the district.
• Set and drive a bold, coherent vision for multilingual learner achievement.
• Strengthen and redesign ML pathways for course access and graduation supports.
• Increase the quality of continuum of services for ML students and improve instruction and achievement.
• Partner with Teaching & Learning to align ML supports with curriculum and assessment systems.
• Develop strategies to meet state and federal reporting requirements for EL programs.
• Build educator capacity for culturally sustaining and linguistically affirming instruction.
• Assist in recruiting, screening, and hiring bilingual staff.
• Conduct department meetings and submit minutes to the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services.
• Supervise and coordinate specialized testing, staffing, and placement for ML programming.
• Coordinate and disseminate information related to compliance requirements.
• Conduct performance evaluations of ML teachers to improve instruction.
• Work collegially with staff and administration.
• Ensure implementation of instructional practices for multilingual learners.
• Facilitate the Multilingual Learner pre-referral process.
• Collaborate on bilingual scheduling with APs and Student Services Coordinators.
• Develop and facilitate professional learning for ML teachers.
• Lead curricular development and enhancement in ML.
• Facilitate professional development for the department.
• Provide feedback on curriculum implementation.
• Maintain data in PowerSchool and Ellevation
• Liaise with ECHO and represent the District at meetings.
• Submit documentation to support department goals.
