Job Description
The Immigration Specialist provides U.S. immigration guidance and support to AbbVie's global pharmaceutical business. Collaborating with legal counsel, this role manages U.S. immigration programs, interfacing with internal stakeholders and outside counsel. Candidates should have extensive hands-on experience with employment-based immigration, including non-immigrant (H, L, O, E, TN, etc.) and immigrant (PERM, NIW, MnM, etc.) matters. This position reports to the Vice President, Employment, Labor and Immigration.

Core Job Responsibilities:
  1. Manage and ensure compliance of business non-immigrant and immigrant immigration matters according to U.S. laws and company policies.
  2. Oversee the submission of government petitions and applications, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  3. Advise HR on global mobility and relocation processes using industry insights.
  4. Develop relationships with internal and external immigration counsel.
  5. Identify trends and strategic needs to develop tailored solutions.
  6. Provide guidance on I-9s, audits, and E-Verify processes.
  7. Stay updated on changes in immigration laws affecting U.S. sponsorship.
  8. Communicate with internal clients and leadership on immigration matters.
  9. Manage budget and legal expenditure compliance.
  10. Prepare reports for stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree; U.S. paralegal or law degree preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience managing employment-based immigration portfolios, with 4+ years in a corporate setting. Alternatively, a JD or bachelor’s plus paralegal certification with 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience managing full-cycle immigration cases (PERM, I-140, adjustment of status).
  • Experience designing and maintaining compliance programs.
  • Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and analyze complex information efficiently.
