Job summary

St. Vincent Catholic Charities seeks a legal support assistant to aid two immigration attorneys in providing representation for vulnerable communities, with a focus on asylum and SIV cases.

You will conduct legal and country conditions research, organize documents, meet clients, schedule appointments and calendars, coordinate interpreters, and draft affidavits and immigration forms while maintaining digital files and contributing to monthly and quarterly reports.

Qualifications

• Education: B.A. or B.S. preferred.
• Experience: Law office or paralegal preferred; exposure to US asylum law; multicultural team experience.
• Licenses and training: MI operator license; strong written and oral communication; second language preferred (Urdu, Dari, Pashto).

Responsibilities

• Conduct legal and country conditions research.
• Organize documents for ongoing and closed cases.
• Meet with clients to gather information.
• Schedule appointments and manage calendars.
• Coordinate interpreters for appointments.
• Monitor and return phone calls and voicemail.
• Maintain client digital files and program databases.
• Draft legal documents such as affidavits and immigration forms.
• Case note every communication with clients.
• Prepare statistics for monthly and quarterly reports.
• Provide general clerical and administrative support to the attorneys.
• Develop and maintain knowledge base of immigration laws and regulations.
• Attend agency meetings and participate as appropriate.
• Work with volunteers and interns.
• Advocate for immigrant rights with other organizations and government entities.
