Job summary

Lutheran Community Services NW is a nonprofit delivering health, justice and hope across WA, OR and ID. This position focuses on direct immigration relief representation for low-income clients, collaborating with USCIS and immigration courts to pursue relief andprotect vulnerable populations.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of immigration law experience.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations and teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct representation to clients before the Immigration Court and USCIS.
  • Develop and litigate cases, including legal research and case strategy.
  • Maintain working knowledge of immigration law, policies, and trends.
  • Provide case support to staff on asylum and related matters.
  • Perform case tracking and management tasks.
  • Participate in outreach and development efforts.

HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

All LCSNW team members will contribute to our mission of partnering with individuals, families,and communities for health, justice,and hope. This position will provide direct legal representation to low-income and culturally diverse immigrants pursuing various forms of immigration relief with Portland U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

  • Provide direct representation to clients before the Immigration Court and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services
  • Develop and litigate cases, including legal research and developing case strategy
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant policies, laws, and trends in immigration law
  • Provide case support to other staff members on asylum and related matters
  • Perform related administrative tasks, such as case tracking and management
  • Participate in LCSNW’s outreach and development efforts
HOW YOU WILL BE A GREAT FIT:
  • 2years of related experience;specificto Immigration Law
  • Juris Doctor degree,admission to any state bar in the US, and be in good standing
  • Credentials may be required depending on individual program or location requirements.
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written.
  • Intermediate mastery of business applications and productivity suites
  • Demonstrates resilience, awareness,and self-regulation in navigating challenges,conflicts,and obstacles/barriers.
  • Thrives in a diverse and multicultural environment; works with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategies to enhance end-user experiences throughout the service lifecycle
  • Demonstrates exceptional commitment to serving and advocating for diverse and marginalized populations
  • Completes tasks in a moderately noisy environment
  • Interacts with others and performs tasks in-person andusingtechnology, with moderate periods of stationary activity andminimal periodsof increased physical activity,including and not limited togeneral office tasks
  • Moves equipment/materials weighing up to15pounds
  • Travels between worksites occasionally
  • Works in a variety of settings, including and not limited to LCSNW office locations, partneragencies,and community-based settings,courts,and faith-based settings such as churches
  • Meets LCSNW criminal background clearance requirements and other job-relevant clearances as required by the State or program
