A law firm based in Oak Park, IL, is currently seeking a driven and resourceful Associate Immigration Attorney to join its expanding immigration legal practice. The role offers the opportunity to work directly with clients, collaborate with experienced legal professionals, and handle a diverse caseload, including removal defense and family-based petitions. Duties:
Provide consultations to clients on immigration strategy and legal pathways
Represent detained and non-detained clients before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
Conduct intakes and legal assessments with individuals held in detention centers
Prepare and submit a wide range of immigration filings, including family-based petitions and applications for humanitarian relief
Review case files and applications to ensure accuracy and completeness
Draft legal briefs and supporting documentation for litigation and administrative proceedings
Develop litigation strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court testimony or USCIS interviews
Coordinate with government agencies, community organizations, and stakeholders on immigration law updates
Maintain and manage a dynamic caseload with strong attention to deadlines and case progression
Requirements:
Minimum of 1 to 4 years of experience practicing immigration law
Licensed and in good standing with a state bar in the U.S.
Demonstrated interest and experience in removal defense, family-based immigration, and humanitarian forms of relief
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high-volume caseload independently
Ability to collaborate effectively within a legal team
Comfortable engaging with diverse client populations, including vulnerable communities
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Active law license in any U.S. jurisdiction
Skills:
Fluency in Spanish preferred, but not required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong legal research and writing abilities
Proficiency with legal case management systems preferred
