Job description

Verde Law is a Miami immigration firm built around one thing: defending immigrants and their families in removal proceedings before EOIR. Asylum, cancellation of removal, bond, Cuban Adjustment Act matters, and appeals are our daily work. Our clients come to us at some of the most frightening moments of their lives.

What you'll do
  • Represent clients before EOIR in master calendar, individual (merits), and bond or custody redetermination hearings, including clients held in detention
  • Develop case strategy and legal theories for removal defense and humanitarian relief: asylum, withholding, CAT, cancellation of removal, Cuban Adjustment Act matters, and asylum-only proceedings
  • Prepare clients and witnesses to testify; conduct direct and cross-examination
  • Draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda; manage filing deadlines and call-ups through ECAS
  • Negotiate with OPLA and ICE counsel on prosecutorial discretion, stipulations, and bond
  • Handle BIA appeals and support federal court matters where appropriate
  • Represent clients in asylum and adjustment of status interviews before USCIS
  • Counsel clients in plain English and Spanish, set honest expectations, and keep them informed at every stage
  • Review declarations and evidence prepared by the paralegal team, and mentor the paralegals who support your cases
What we're looking for
Required
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license in good standing in any U.S. state (Florida Bar preferred, not required)
  • Fluent in English and Spanish, spoken and written; nearly all client communication is in Spanish
  • Immigration law experience that includes removal proceedings before EOIR, at any level: law school clinic, fellowship, nonprofit, or private practice
  • Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
  • Warm, professional client-counseling skills, with composure in difficult conversations
  • Organized, deadline-driven, and sound in judgment
You’ll stand out if you have
  • Two or more years of removal defense practice, with asylum, cancellation of removal, or bond hearings you handled yourself
  • Detained docket experience (Krome, Broward, or similar)
  • BIA appeals, federal court, or asylum office experience

Newer attorneys with EOIR exposure are encouraged to apply. Experienced removal defense attorneys: we would be glad to talk about a senior role and compensation that reflects your experience.

What we offer
  • Competitive salary based on experience, plus performance bonuses
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • A supportive, collaborative team that invests in your growth, with a clear path to senior roles
  • Modern, technology-forward systems and strong paralegal support
