Job summary

Smithsonian Enterprises in Washington, DC, seeks Projectionist to operate IMAX dual laser 3D and digital cinema projectors and AV systems across the Smithsonian venues. You will maintain equipment, adapt to a varied schedule including early mornings, late nights, and overnight shifts, and coordinate with vendors for maintenance while ensuring guest experiences.

Qualifications include an Associate's degree and 6-12 months related experience; ability to travel between DC and Chantilly locations;

Qualifications

• Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school, and six months to one-year related experience and/or training.
• Ability to work weekends and holidays, and evenings to meet the schedule.
• Experience operating cinema and/or digital dome theater systems and maintaining AV equipment.
• Familiarity with audio/visual equipment and basic service/repair skills.
• Willingness to travel between Smithsonian Theater locations in DC and Chantilly, VA.

Responsibilities

• Develops and maintains knowledge to operate existing and new equipment.
• Follows a flexible work schedule including early mornings, late nights, or overnight work.
• Notifies supervisor of equipment issues affecting show quality.
• Performs routine maintenance on projectors and A/V systems.
• Escorts vendors during preventive maintenance and emergency repair sessions.
• Interacts professionally with patrons and staff, answering questions as needed.
• Maintains inventory of theater content and media.
