Job summary

Northwestern Medicine is seeking an Assistant Tech Imaging to support technologists, nurses, and physicians in Imaging Services. You will help coordinate patient flow, prepare rooms, and assist during exams, ensuring safety and efficiency.

This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to explain procedures, and adherence to NMH policies. A high school diploma and CPR certification are required, with healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Care for the patient throughout the treatment/procedure according to department and hospital standards of care, age-specific sensitivities, and Patients' First guidelines.
• Prepare procedure rooms for patients prior to their arrival and work area.
• Explain exams and answer basic questions; knowledge of MR Safety if MR; escalate clinical questions as needed.
• Follow directions of technologist/nurse to assist in performing exam/procedure on patients.
• Process CDs as needed; lift and escort patients; maintain lift equipment competencies per NMH policy.
• Coordinate patient care based on imaging protocols; interact with clinical staff to coordinate patient flow.
• Reconcile physician orders to correct exam protocol and report discrepancies.
• Prepare all necessary paperwork and information for treatment/procedure.
• Retrieve physician orders from order systems (EPIC, Chartview, Powerchart).
• Clarify and verify patient demographic information for accuracy.
• Monitor schedule to ensure patient flow and inform coordinators and patients of delays.
• Obtain paperwork to start exams; handle outside films and obtain patient films when requested.
• Identify and report problems to supervisors.
• Use Radnet and PACS; monitor supplies in rooms; reorder as needed and keep areas clean.
• Operate designated equipment efficiently and maintain equipment/work area; document safety checks.
• Follow policies to improve department efficiency.
• Organize and prioritize work; schedule time to meet demands.
• Provide clerical/technical support as assigned by Manager.
