Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a skilled Imaging Informatics Support role to maintain and enhance its imaging information systems. The candidate will administer PACS, configure radiology data mappings, and support clinical workflows across departments.

The position emphasizes collaboration with technologists, physicians, and IT staff, including after-hours call coverage and ongoing system upgrades to ensure data integrity and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field; 3 years of technical experience; on-the-job education via seminars or training.
• 7 years of relevant clinical informatics or PACS administration may substitute for degree requirement.
• Experience as a technical administrator for EMR, PACS, and dictation systems in a clinical setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• System Administration of Imaging Information Systems as assigned.
• Configure/test radiology orders, forms, billing coding, and clinical data mapping in the medical records system.
• Configure/test clinical imaging systems for proper archival and display.
• Configure/test worklists, dictation systems, and related imaging systems for workflows.
• Assist in design and testing of components and upgrade versions; server administration.
• Provide end user education and training; participate in upgrades and projects.
• Monitor PACS worklists and HL7 error queues; resolve imaging issues with technologists and physicians.
• Provide call coverage on supported Imaging Systems on a rotating basis.

Job Description

This position will provide support for the analysis, documentation, testing, and implementation of new systems, as well as provide maintenance and support for existing systems. This position will act as a direct liaison with user, technical support, training, and operations personnel. This position will provide technical and administrative support to the department, and assist more senior level team members with project and support activities. Responsibilities range from hardware support and build to imaging informatics application maintenance and troubleshooting to QC for data integrity as assigned.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• 1. System Administration of Imaging Information Systems as assigned:

• 4. c) Configure and test worklists, dictation systems, and other related imaging systems to enable clinical and research workflows

• 7. Project support for covered applications:
• 8. a) Test and install new client software as needed
• 9. b) Participate in upgrade and strategic projects as assigned

• 12. Quality Control and Error Management of PACS and RIS Data:
• 13. a) Monitor PACS worklists as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

Required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, and three (3) years of technical experience. On-the-job experience should be supplemented with continuing education gained through technical seminars and/or training courses. 7 years of relevant clinical informatics or PACS administration experience may substitute for degree requirement.

Preferred: Experience as a technical administrator for EMR, PACS, and dictation systems in a clinical setting. Experience with data reconciliation, applications testing, and end user training.
