Job description

Program Overview

MICA’s Summer PreCollege Art and Design Program is a 2‑4 week intensive college‑level experience designed to help participants transition from high‑school art students to artists with advanced skill, personal vision, and a professional portfolio. It is intended for rising juniors and seniors. The Community Assistant (CA) role supports all residential and community aspects of the program while living on campus with staff and students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support all residential and community aspects of the PreCollege program while living on campus with other staff and students.
  • Be on call throughout the program, including evenings and weekends, and assist with any student needs that arise.
  • Assist with the successful implementation of PreCollege programming and all administrative, clerical, physical, organizational and leadership tasks.
  • Work with Pro Staff to plan, implement, and participate in social, cultural, and artistic programming that addresses student interests and needs, including evenings and weekends.
  • Model, implement, and enforce PreCollege program policies, rules and regulations.
  • Assist with all student move‑in, move‑out activities, welcoming families, moving items, cleaning rooms, and answering questions.
  • Ensure a safe and positive residential experience for students.
  • Facilitate and encourage students to develop healthy interpersonal relationships, personal wellness, and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • Provide support, interventions, and referrals when appropriate for individual student needs.
  • Act as an ambassador for the program and perform additional related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent judgment and ability to maintain mature and professional conduct.
  • Strong written, verbal, and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of art and design processes and disciplines.
  • Familiarity with MICA’s campus, equipment, and resources.
  • Leadership ability to manage others and provide guidance as necessary.
  • Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Consistent implementation of program policies while serving as a role model of appropriate behavior.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled MICA undergraduate student at the time of employment.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5 and good conduct standing with the college.
  • Professionalism and confidentiality at a high level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with youth in a formal job or volunteer role.
  • Skills in conflict resolution, de‑escalation, and decision making in emergent situations.
Compensation and Benefits
  • 40 hours maximum per week, paid $15 per hour.
  • Housing provided and required for the CA position.
  • Meals provided while on shift for in‑person program.
Conditions of Employment
  • CJIS fingerprint and background check required.
  • Full availability for evenings and weekends.
  • Must live in residence for the duration of training and program dates.
  • Full availability for the dates: Move‑in June30–July1, 2026; Training July6–10; Program starts July12; Program ends August8; Final clean‑up August8‑11.
  • Cannot hold other campus positions during the program due to 40‑hour limit.
  • Position contingent upon participant enrollment in the PreCollege program.
