Job summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a Substation Automation Engineer – Grid Modernization (IEC 61850) to lead design, engineering, and deployment of digital substations and secure automation architectures. You will work across teams to implement open, vendor‑agnostic solutions and drive modernization outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an accredited program.
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience.
• Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop SCL artifacts including ICD, CID, and SCD files and GOOSE publications.
• Configure MMS, GOOSE, and SV messaging for protection and SCADA.
• Design station-bus and process-bus networks with PRP/HSR and QoS.
• Create deterministic real-time networking paths with accurate PTP timing.
• Integrate multi-vendor IEDs with SCADA/HMI and protection settings.
• Contribute to IEEE/IEC standards and industry groups like vPAC Alliance.
