Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks an Operations Specialist within the Integrated Discovery Sciences Directorate to provide leadership and safety oversight for its research operations. You will help ensure compliant, efficient project execution across the IDSD portfolio, working with scientists, facilities staff and project managers on day-to-day activities.

The role emphasizes risk assessment, regulatory awareness, and collaboration across directorates.

Qualifications

• BS/BA and 7 years of relevant experience OR MS/MA or higher and 5 years of relevant experience
• Experience with IDSD systems and processes (e.g., EPR/Lab Assist)
• Experience with lab and facility readiness
• Experience with radiological and chemical work scope
• Excellent written and verbal communication and proven leadership skills
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and synthesize complex technical information
• Knowledge of DOE requirements, EHSS principles and Operational Excellence with ability to influence policy

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and safety oversight of IDSD operations
• Integrate operational capabilities and requirements across research and support organizations
• Maintain awareness of operational risk and regulatory requirements
• Lead or participate in incident investigations and corrective actions
• Develop and participate in IDSD and directorate assessments
• Coordinate SME support for planning and risk mitigation
• Support day-to-day work in research spaces and with contractors
• Represent IDSD on lab-space issues and startups
• Foster collaboration across R&D management, researchers, and facilities teams
