Job summary

Slack’s Identity Security team seeks a Senior Software Engineer to build identity and access controls that protect Slack’s infrastructure and agents. You will design backend services on AWS and Kubernetes, contribute to secure software practices, and collaborate across Identity, Security, and Infrastructure teams.

The role emphasizes building automation, scaling identity across humans and AI agents, and growing domain expertise while delivering reliable, secure access control.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including building and operating production backend systems.
• Proficiency in a high-level programming language such as Python or Go.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including deploying and operating services in a cloud environment.
• Working knowledge of distributed systems concepts (APIs, service architecture, data stores).
• Solid understanding of security fundamentals and secure software development practices.
• Strong verbal communication skills — able to explain technical tradeoffs clearly to teammates.
• Strong written communication skills: you can write durable and clear documentation for a variety of readers, including engineering teammates, technical reviewers, and users
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and build identity and access management services on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Extend agentic identity controls for AI agents to authenticate, request access, and operate within Slack's systems.
• Build automation to remove manual steps from access management and reduce risk.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Identity, Security, and Infrastructure teams on shared services and APIs.
• Participate in code and design reviews to maintain high-quality software and sound system design.
• Grow ownership of projects and systems as you build identity domain expertise.
