Job summary

State of Maine in Augusta seeks an Identification Specialist I to analyze criminal history records, confirm identities, and evaluate legal documents for direct care worker eligibility. The role requires independent judgment to exclude individuals with disqualifying histories.

You will evaluate RAP sheets, confirm identities, and determine suitability for positions caring for vulnerable persons in Maine, using strong communication and computer skills.

Qualifications

• Two-year combination of complex clerical experience and/or post-secondary education, including evaluating and interpreting legal documents.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills and telephone skills.
• Knowledge of law enforcement or the criminal justice field is preferred.
• Ability to work with a diverse group of partners and use computer and database programs.

Responsibilities

• Analyze criminal history records (RAP sheets) and verify identities.
• Interpret and evaluate legal documents and confirm applicant identities against exclusion lists.
• Determine eligibility of individuals with criminal histories to be direct access care workers for vulnerable persons in Maine.
• Provide outreach and training guidance to providers as needed.
